It was the day of 19 September the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup, former Indian player Yuvraj Singh scripted a famous inning by hitting 6 sixes in an over.
But that not come all sudden, in a television show Yuvraj Singh reveals what provoked him to hit 6 sixes against England bowler Stuart Broad.
Remembering that iconic day, Yuvraj Singh reveals the details of what happened in the previous over with England All-Rounder Andrew Flintoff.
Yuvraj Singh reveals what Andrew Flintoff said before hitting 6 sixes:
“To be honest it was not in my mind to hit 5-6 sixes in an over but my argument with Flintoff got me infuriated.” Yuvraj Singh said in Sports Tak ( a tv show).
“I had hit Flintoff for 2 boundaries on good deliveries and he did not like it. And after that over when I was walking to the other end. I can’t repeat exactly what he said. He told me that those were some ridiculous shots. So I asked him what did he say and had a confrontation.” Yuvraj added.
Yuvraj revealed the talks between him and Flintoff.
Flintoff: I will cut your throat off.
Yuvraj: You see this bat in my hand, You know where I am gonna hit you with this bat.
Umpires interrupted immediately and denied further heat between Yuvraj and Flintoff. But at that time Yuvraj only thinking to hit every ball out of the stadium.
“So the umpire interrupted us but I was very pumped after that argument and I had decided that I have to send every ball out of the park now. Luckily it was my day,” Yuvraj recalled.
Yuvraj hit 6 successive sixes in the next over on Stuart Broad bowling.
The first ball he hit over deep-midwicket, the second ball to backward square leg, the third ball to wide long-off, the fourth ball to over point region, the fifth ball to square leg and the last ball Yuvraj hit to wide long-on.
“Today when I see those sixes (highlights), I wonder how I did I hit the first shot. The 2nd and 3rd were good shots. But the 4th one was in the point region. Before that day, I had never even hit a boundary in point.” Yuvraj got goosebumps as he describes those shots.
The Southpaw completed his half-century in just 12 balls and helped India to post a mammoth total of 218-4 in that match.
Yuvraj Singh has the record for the fastest fifty till date in the shortest format of the game.
India went on to win that match and entered the semi-final, eventually, India ends up as a Winner of the T20 World Cup.
