Mohammed Shami was the second-highest wicket-taker for India in 2015, World Cup only behind Umesh Yadav. Shami took 17 wickets from 7 matches in the World Cup 2015 at a great average 17.29.
Umesh Yadav took 18 wickets from 8 matches in the World Cup 2015.
Mohammed Shami during an Instagram live session with former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan revealed that he had played World Cup 2015 with an injured knee.
Shami talking about his World Cup experience with Irfan Pathan said-
“Sometimes an important series or match you have to play whatever your condition.”
Mohammed Shami played with knee fracture in World Cup 2015:
“In the 2015 World Cup, I played with a fractured knee. I’m in that condition that I can barely walk.” Shami told Irfan Pathan in an Instagram live session.”
“I preferred to use painkillers and injections to play in the World Cup. Nitin Pate, physio helped me during that condition and for that, I was able to complete the World Cup 2015.”
“Actually, my knee needed an operation, team management told me if I can bear that pain then I can play the World Cup,” Shami added.
Irfan Pathan asked Shami about his injury, Shami said that during the first game of the tournament he got injured and went on to play the whole World Cup.
“My knee broke in the first match of the World Cup, even my thighs and knee became the size at that time, doctors had to take out fluids every day, I used to take three-painkillers in a day at that time.”
Mohammed Shami also praised the former Indian Captain MS Dhoni for his support during the World Cup 2015.
Shami said Dhoni motivated me a lot at that time and has faith in me so that I could play the whole tournament.
India reached in the World Cup semi-final 2015 and lost the match to mighty Australia.
Australia posts a great total (328-7) in the World Cup semi-final and in reply, India bowled out for 223. Australia won the semi-final by 105 runs.
Steve Smith scored a vital ton (105) in the semi-final and helped his team to win the semi-final, eventually, Australia ends as the Winner of the World Cup 2015.
